The Island Artist
Artist / Writer / Gemologist
William DePaula creates a world of vibrance and subtle mystery. William’s world is filled with vivid life and color. The pictures give you an energy of what was painted or drawn. The work is a blend of the dramatic influence of the early masters and the simplicity of the modern masters.
From the time he was knee-high to a crocodile, William has wanted to draw. Having spent his early life traveling the country and going from flea market to flea market, he was able to experience many landscapes and people. When his family eventually settled in the Florida Keys, he knew he had come home. He knew he belonged close to the ocean.
William wants to bring people the beauty, the colors and the sense of relaxation of the islands he loves. When he’s not working as a gemologist, playing princess with his daughters or tennis with his son, you can find him immersed in painting or drawing. He envisions a world in which beauty is as important as function, where culture and history are fiercely preserved, and where islands are havens to be protected.
