As a small boy, my favorite rainy day pastime was to go to Idlewild Airport (now John F. Kennedy International Airport) and watch people and planes. From inside the airport terminal, I could hear the hum of those Pratt & Whitney Engines and peer out the large picture windows and watch the rain dance down the sides of those shiny Jet cabins. Where were all those people going? The melodic sound of the Airport’s P.A. system, seemed to have a tinge of mystery, adventure and wonderment, as announcements to such place names as Brussels, Rome, Stockholm, Malaysia, Tangiers would interrupt the sound of hush tones and foot traffic. I loved colorful magazines such as “Life” and “Look” as they were emblazoned with automobile ads: “See the U.S.A. in a Chevrolet”. I could still hear that catchy jingo in my head, as the chevy, laden with family members, and don’t forget the dog, hugged the curves of the Pacific Coast Highway. Yes that was postcard picture perfect. I’ll never forget the movies, “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” and “Mogambo” both set in Africa.
As an Adult I visited the Indonesian Island of Bali. I was sold. Wow! The close to nature feeling was all too consuming. The lush valleys and awesome gorges that rise from the earth, rife with exotic flora and fauna is something to behold.
At Avatar Global tours, I’d like to share some beautiful cultures and vistas with you. I’ll do the research and the pre-trip planning. I am a former N.Y.P.D. Sergeant. I know when to steer clear and when to venture. Let’s go.
