His doctoral dissertation, from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, was entitled "Changing Forms of Identity and Political Leadership Among the Akawaio Kapon", and focused on the history of the Akawaio people of the Upper Mazaruni, Guyana.  His recent work includes field research in Guyana, and addresses the implications of ecological and development policies, political participation, and the paradoxes inherent in contemporary ideologies of democracy and human rights.
