Pacific Northwest

I was born in Philadelphia. Eventually found myself (pun intended?) in Vermont. I visited a friend one Fourth-of-July weekend, went back to New York (where I was working), gave two-week’s notice, and moved up there. I found and moved into my own little hermitage deep in the woods: no power, outdoor “plumbing”, and “walking water” from a nearby spring.

A couple of years later I moved to Japan and lived there for 20-years; two near Tokyo, and 18 in rural Hokkaido. My house there was on the edge of a small (pop. 300 /-) farming village.

I now live near Seattle. Many of my Haiku, Tanka, and Haibun are about my years in the woods.

As I near retirement my goal is to return to Vermont.
