I'm a biracial (Black and White) freelance writer and video blogger currently living in New York City. I am originally from Montgomery County, Maryland -- a suburb of Washington D.C.
I grew up in a multiracial home and community that helped me developed a strong sense of self. Unfortunately, too many young multiracial people don't have the support system that I did. In fact, the reason I started my YouTube channel "MWTwyman" was to address some questions that I'm constantly asked by other people in regards to being biracial. Using my own experiences and the feedback from others I made it a point to start writing a book based on the experience of people specifically sharing both a Black/African American and a White/Caucasian heritage.
Being a writer helps me to share my experience with others...it helps me connect with people who may normally feel alone in the world. If I can show one person that the pressures and hardships they feel aren't a product of who they are as a person but more likely a side-effect of the stereotypes and viewpoints that other people and society as a whole inflicts on them, then I feel my time and energy will have been well spent.
