NOTE:I come from a family of artists. On my mother's side, the women paint and most are hairdressers. I cannot cut my own husband's hair without messing it up and painting is a whole new game. So, I my art is photography. I do not have any real formal training in photography. I just picked up a camera and started playing around. I have friends that are photographers for a living and when I picked up my first DSLR, I bombarded him (yes, mostly one person) with questions. (Thanks Justin for being so patient.) For a portion of my job, I take photos, however, I'm not allowed to use Photoshop to enhance any of those images. (I go to Kyleen for PS questions! And thank you my dear best friend). For a few years, I've taken photos for friends to try and develop my portrait skills. I noticed though, I don't really know how to tell the person how to pose, or what to think about to express a look. I know what I want the photo to look like, but in order for that to come out in an explanation is hard for me. In an effort to develop myself as a portrait photographer, this blog will feature a photo a day during 2012. I might miss a few days here and there, but hey, I'm not perfect. I'm shooting with a Canon Xti and have three lenses - a 50mm, a 28-55mm and a 70-300mm. My favorite by far is the 50mm as it goes down to 1.8. Also, as this year progresses, and as I find time, I'll look for portrait tips and try to use them in my photos. Plus, I'll be trying to understand Photoshop and use it to smooth out skin, enhance eyes and lean all that CS5 has to offer. Let the adventure begin! I'm a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a BA in Journalism. I'm currently attending an online graduate program with the University of Memphis. By taking one class at a time, I can not only work full-time, but also be a wife and a mom. Thank you for looking. Comments, suggestions and opinions are always welcome.
