After outgrowing our lovely three bedroomed semi about four years ago, it took us another two years to lick it into shape so we could put it on the market. During all that time I have been holding back on buying anything house related. We’ve needed new towels for the bathroom but hey what colour would our new bathroom be. I found a gorgeous antique china dinner service but there was no room to store it. I even found some gorgeous discounted conservatory furniture but who knew if the new house would have a conservatory. But guess what, now I know the answer because we have FINALLY sold our house, found another one, bought it and moved in. The thing is although the new house is definitely bigger, its also in quite a state. Its got an extra bedroom, two extra bathrooms and more floor space than we ever imagined we could afford, BUT it was done up (very beautifully at the time) in the 1970s and hasn’t been touched since! For example it has a sunken avocado bath in the ensuite whose walls are covered in paisley brown and green wallpaper. The whole thing is very reminiscent of a James Bond movie! Anyway, the only reason we could buy this house is because it needs so much doing to it. I’m excited and scared about this project all at the same time. With two young kids, a workaholic husband, a fledging consulting business and ambitions to be a writer, and now a house that needs better decorating and DIY skills than mine, I’m a little nervous about 2012!
