The North Korea Project

Many people know that despite rampant poverty and repression, North Korea remains a closed-off state under the tight control of its dictator, Kim Jong-il. What many do NOT know, however, is that an estimated 300,000 North Korean escapees currently live in hiding in China, in their desperate efforts to escape political repression and poverty. However, the Chinese government, a political ally of the North Korean regime, summarily seeks out and sends back the refugees to North Korea, where the escapees face grave consequences that include imprisonment, torture, and death.

The North Korea Project (NKP) is a student-run organization of Dartmouth College that seeks to raise campus awareness of the North Korean refugee crisis. As a chapter of Liberty in North Korea (LiNK), NKP also provides funding for LiNK and hosts movie and documentary screenings from LiNK
