I am an educator and writer/editor living in Northern, Virginia. I run a non-profit organization focused on assisting high school students with college matriculation and graduation. A 36 year-old, African-American female, I have been living with depression since my late high school years. Over time, I have discovered that my triggers are major life changing events. This is my first attempt at written therapy. I have also employed art as therapy; these pieces are depicted on Polyvore, an art/fashion online global community. Despite any ills, my primary fortunes in life are my faith and family. I want to continue to be there for my family and students, so I strive to write through the pain and all the rest. I also want to encourage other sufferers to find their voice as well; it is the only thing that will truly cut through the darkness and help lead one into the light. Shame and silence is not an option, for we are survivors who bear a strength beyond measure. The healing begins with you. Thank you in advance for your support and following this blog.
