Elangwe
Sherell J. Elangwe
After losing my job, due to corporate downsizing, and being unemployed for nearly a year, I realized it was time to create opportunities for myself. My mother instilled in me, the old adage, “God will make a way out of no way.” God has given me all the tools I need, to find my way, my purpose, in this world and I am on a radical mission to do just that!

When you lose a job, there are still bills to pay, food to buy and expenses to be met…they don’t wait until you are employed and I don’t have anyone knocking down my door to pay my way. It can be very discouraging to send resume after resume to jobs you know you are more than qualified for and be overlooked. In that discouragement, I found a new motivation to do things my way…THE ELANGWE WAY!

The Elangwe Way is my method of survival. We all have gifts/talents and passions, marry those with drive and you find if you make room for your gifts/talents, they will create opportunities for you. I lost my job and started an in home cookie bakery. I first thought baking was just a way to “get by” until I found my next job. Actually that’s how the businesses we see today are started…someone saw a need, used their talents and figured out how to supply those needs. What are you good at? What are you passionate about? What do you stand for? Cultivate that area in your life and there lies your opportunity to work smarter and not harder.

Over the years, in addition to my normal 9-5 and/or in between jobs, I have worked temporary positions; varying from filling in for a person for a day, a few days, weeks or months. During these temporary assignments I gained invaluable on-the-job-training in various fields. I quickly learned that I can do ANYTHING. If I didn’t know how, I made room for my talents and made a way; researching, consulting experts, whatever it took. I have learned you can be taught anything you are willing to put the work into. Doctors aren’t born, they are trained and developed. When you start a new job, even if you graduated summa cum laude, you don’t walk in knowing every aspect of the position, you are trained. If you are coachable/trainable, you can do anything you so desire.
The Elangwe Way is my way to tell the world I will not be defeated. I will not give up just because someone hasn’t realized my value, YET! The Elangwe Way goes further than creating a national news story about my resume in balloons; it is about what you do in the dash…the time between your last job and your next job. Whatever you want in this world, you have to go get it!
