NOTE:Enlightenment comes to me in small doses -- in these little "a-HA" moments in life where I think I am minding my own business, reading a book, or otherwise occupied with a mundane task. I discovered and connected with my eternal presence while reading Viktor Frankl's book Man's Search for Meaning. In this book, Frankl talks about facing life's circumstances by asking yourself the question: "What is life asking of you?" When I first asked myself that question, something inside me shifted and asked, "But who is going to respond to life's question?" It was at this moment that I realized I was not being who I came to this existence to be. I was living life from the person my life had shaped, with all of my fears, anxieties, worries, neediness, programming, illusions, and pain. I became aware of another energy who is me . . . the presence that has existed eternally and chose to come to this existence to become more, to grow, to connect, and to be truly alive. All this other stuff I am doing is distraction. I can still live in the distraction and engage life with my eternal presence. Each day, I visit the message on my computer screen. It reads "How will I bring my presence to life today?" The question reminds me to ask myself as often as I can remember "how will I bring my presence to this person, this situation, this circumstance, this whatever?" How I bring my presence (fully, partially, or not at all; with joy, sadness, and discretion; with wisdom and curiosity) is my practice. It is my way of connecting with my eternity.
