Ember

When I was growing up in the 60's and 70's, the images I had of witches were the ones from TV. Witchy poo from H.R. Puffinstuff, and the good and wicked witches from The Wizard of Oz. There was not a lot of information out there available and things were silinced. There was nothing but Disney fairy tales available to a little girl, but I knew things were different.
I was an avid reader, far above my grade, you see when I was six years old, I died on the operating table and I came back to life. I remember dieing and it was documented by the staff. My appendix ruptured and I was in the hospital getting better from shortly after Christmas until Easter; since I was 6 and ill, time was wierd I just remember being very sick and right after Christmas it became real bad. The day I came out I was given a outfit because nothing in my closet fit me any longer and we went to church, one of the few times my family went and the only time my father went. Anyways, I read so much, because there was nothing else to do, no video games, the tv to rent for the room was expensive and well I loved reading, so when I left I was at a grade four level.
In the 70's our local strip mall was demolished and a new mall was put in it's place. In that mall went a book store and it had an occult section. It was meager and there was never really much in the way of substance. Then one day I bought my first book. It was by Sybil Leek and well being only 10 and having had no training, I didn't quite understand it, but I knew I would need it. I put the book in my closet and waited for the time when I would understand it. That book disappeared, as did anything of interest, because my mother was vigilant and confiscated anything deemed inappropriate. However, she did buy me books from that book store as well, like Baba Yaga, Russian Folktales, American Folktales, lovely tomes with pictures and unhappy endings. So again, I knew there was more out there.
All my life I have known what I am and where I am heading. I have been patient and waited for the right time. It is finally here and everything is starting to fall into place. I'm going to document my journey and add in any obstacles that come into my path.
