The overall focus of our research is to understand the mechanism behind the adaptation of human tendons to changes in load.
In studies on in-vivo human tendons we have shown that several growth factors are released in response to physical activity and that load leads to increased collagen synthesis in human connective tissue. This relationship will be further investigated.
A better understanding of the link between growth factor release and collagen adaptation would be valuable in as diverse situations as rehabilitation and training, immobilization and inactivity allowing more optimal rehabilitation of patients with tendon problems.
