NOTE:I am an African American, child of the universe, with a penchant for learning. I have progressed through the cycles of life with a program that emerged out of the interplay of my inheritance and my immediate post WWII environment in  segregated East Texas. I stand now a few months away from my 65th birthday looking back with gratitude and humility over my life and simultaneously peering hopefully and enthusiastically  into the future. This future of twitter, facebook, texts, and mp3's is just as exciting to me as 1969 was as I sat enchanted by the prospects of learning the mysteries of molecular biology with no clue that the human genome would be mapped in my lifetime. Parallel to this was a sobering disorientation and awakening to a historical consciousness borne out the blood of a lineage of Black martyrs. I graduated Texas Southern University in 1968, our King was murdered the same year a few months before my graduation. I was drafted for the Army a few months after my graduation. I went to medical school instead. The rest is history!!!
