He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation and selected for active duty. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He also holds a master of arts degree. Jimmie sold his first magazine article in September 1981. Since then has been published in over a dozen magazines and trade journals including getting three cover articles. He reviews and edits books in the military history genre for several publishers.
