It was a rectangular, aqua, point-and-shoot device — Kodak, I think — that took 35 mm film. I'd asked for it as a Christmas gift; I must have been 11 or 12. Compulsively, I began documenting every moment of any significance: birthday parties with friends, parades, the growth cycle of my friend's car-/train-/automobile-obsessed boy. Over the past four or five years, my focus has shifted from people to nature. Nature often sits still, has more dimensions and is frequently more colorful. It's funny...I grew up in Massachusetts, yet there's so much about it that I don't know. A tally tells me that, of 351 towns in Mass., there are 112 that I've never heard of. There are rumors and bits of history that everyone seems to know but me. While I should probably be ashamed, I see this as an opportunity. There are countless spots in MA that are quintessential New England. And this area is so damn beautiful, why not capture as much as I can?
