noandthen
It seems to me that despite the differences that inevitably manifest themselves between human beings, there are some things to which we all gravitate - momentous historical occasions, catch phrases, sounds, images.
In my mind, i like think of these images, these rare moments in time when it seems as if the world sort of makes sense as Blue Fins.
"Sun lower, clouds and shadows draining color; tide at ebb. Birds flying in formation except for one, solitary in marsh. Wind among flowers causes them to bend and flash like a FIN cutting through water; petals fall and heads droop. Fields of corn varnished red and gold. Brown tinge in house, shadow of moth" – The Waves, Virginia Woolf
I want this blog to be somewhat of a nesting place for blue fins; I want it to serve as a place where I can collect the things that mean something, the items – thoughts, pictures, words, sounds - that pierce through the static of our daily lives, as does a lone fin in a glass ocean. Blue fins are moments that appear to me, rare elations, pure revelations.
Blue fins are also, perhaps, hopefully, stepping stones within the context of my own personal, and professional journey to achieve what Aristotle calls " the Chief Good (i.e. of Happiness)." And if i am able to touch a few people, change a few lives along the way, then all the better...
The name noandthen is derived from a desire not to always postpone doing important things. It speaks to more than just a postponed desire to create a blog, and engage with others on a virtual and literary level. The longer version of the name, no-more-and-then, is somewhat of an ode to living in the present, taking charge of one's own future, to the highest degree possible.
This is so as not to forget the blue fins.
