This has been an interesting journey full of twists and turns and a lot of unexpected pursuits. Overall though, the theme of my career has been to help direct and guide youth who have had struggles on the path that most people take.\n\nWhen I started college at Penn State, I suspected that I would like to be an educator. I looked seriously at elementary education for a while and even did some practicum before realizing that path was not the exact one I would like to pursue. Since psychology and education were both intriguing to me, I then went into Rehabilitation Services which is what I earned my Bachelor\u2019s degree in. This was really the beginning of my dedication to helping youth, because my internship and 900 hour AmeriCorps Booster were then dedicated to Big Brothers Big Sisters in State College, PA.\n\nI enjoyed my experience with AmeriCorps so much, that I decided to make a full 10 month commitment. I found a program in Douglasville, GA that aligned with my interests in the outdoors. At Inner Harbour, experiential education was the premise of the EXCEL program where I served. We used a lot of exciting therapies such as backpacking, ropes course, rock climbing, canoeing, and west African drumming to make educational and personal connections for the youth that were working their way through the program as an alternative to youth detention centers. I went on to become a teacher with the EXCEL program for about five years because I enjoyed the work so much. This was where I had my first experience with Special Education because a lot of our students had Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).\n\nAfter my wife and I took a brief honeymoon of five months to hike the Appalachian Trail, we landed in Nashville, TN.\n\nI have continued to work with youth taking the path less traveled in a several schools within the Metro Nashville Public School System. The first stop was a short stay at Stratford High School as the In School Suspension Monitor. I then decided that I would like to pursue the Special Education field further and enrolled in a Master\u2019s of Arts in Special Education at Lipscomb University. I have provided Moderate Intervention Services (MIS) for MNPS from 2009 to 2012.\n\nI still enjoy getting outside and share my skills and knowledge with Troop 3 in Nashville. I serve Troop 3 as the Outdoor Coordinator, Assistant Scoutmaster, and webmaster.\n\nI suspect that I will continue looking for enjoyable ways to help youth make connections to their learning for a very long time.","currentLocation":"East Nashville, TN","emails":[{"primary":"true","value":"reuben.stugart@gmail.com"}],"ims":[{"type":"gtalk","value":"reuben.stugart"}],"accounts":[{"domain":"facebook.com","display":"reuben.stugart","url":"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reuben.stugart","username":"reuben.stugart","verified":"true","shortname":"facebook"},{"domain":"flickr.com","display":"reuben257","url":"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/people\/reuben257\/","username":"reuben257","verified":"true","shortname":"flickr"},{"domain":"friendfeed.com","display":"reuben257","url":"http:\/\/friendfeed.com\/reuben257","username":"reuben257","verified":"true","shortname":"friendfeed"},{"domain":"linkedin.com","display":"reubenstugart","url":"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/reubenstugart","username":"reubenstugart","verified":"true","shortname":"linkedin"},{"domain":"twitter.com","display":"@reubenstugart","url":"http:\/\/twitter.com\/reubenstugart","username":"reubenstugart","verified":"true","shortname":"twitter"},{"domain":"reuben.wordpress.com","display":"reuben.wordpress.com","url":"http:\/\/reuben.wordpress.com\/","username":"reuben.wordpress.com","verified":"true","shortname":"wordpress"},{"domain":"youtube.com","display":"reuben257","url":"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/reuben257","username":"reuben257","verified":"true","shortname":"youtube"}],"urls":[{"value":"http:\/\/www.stugart.wordpress.com","title":"Professional blog"},{"value":"http:\/\/www.reubenandmissie.com","title":"Adventure blog"},{"value":"http:\/\/www.reuben.wordpress.com","title":"Personal blog"},{"value":"http:\/\/www.nashvilletroop3.com","title":"Troop 3 website"}]}]}
