Safe Safar is a campaign running in Lucknow City, for safe transportation of women commuters. The campaign is being implemented in Lucknow, the Capital of Uttar Pradesh by youth group named Effort.
During the travel in the city public transportation, women commuters face many problems such as teasing and verbal abuse. Auto/Tempo are well known public transport in Lucknow City, therefore, we made a baseline survey with auto/Tempo driver. In this survey we tried to learn the way of how aware auto/tempo driver are taking this serious issue. We also implemented this same process with women commuters and found out their self experiences, they never share with anyone and how these experiences impacted their social life. We also found that there is no helpline number available in any auto/tempo. Even vehicle driver and commuters are unaware about this important fact.
Therefore under this campaign we are trying to connect with this driver community and make them aware about gender violence, related laws and also develop the sense of “My vehicle is safe” within.
