About me:
My name is Geraldine Looker. I am a Brit that moved ‘Across the Pond’ at the mature age of 50 plus
What happened to change my life?
I was a midwife by profession,on my own juggling too many balls in the air and catching few. Trying to find a work/life balance, battling with a lack of finances and of course social life: What social life? It would have been so good to have someone to come home to.
A Cinderella Moment?
My daughter once said to me, “Mum you have to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince”. Now come on! I definitely bought my daughter too many fairy-tale books as a child.
Then wham! Out of the blue, when least expecting it, I met my frog, who is now my husband, (his words)
However, within months of getting to know each other, he was offered a permanent job in the USA.
Where was my Fairy Godmother now? Ah my dear never lose faith.
We commuted between the USA and the UK for the next 3 ½ years. A challenge to our new relationship?
The magic wand works again. We survived! and went on to make plans for our future together; we were married in 2009, in a log cabin in the North Georgia hills!
The family home sold, I took early retirement from a long career which had dominated so much of my life. I joined my husband ‘Across the Pond’ in 2010, leaving behind my precious family and friends.
Where are we now? Settled in Georgia and loving every minute of it. I feel I am living someone else’s life. Living a dream! For all you cynics out there see, fairytales do come true after all.
What now? I am inspired by my surroundings, by the people we have met and the places so far we have visited.
I feel that I have been given a unique opportunity at my age not only meeting the most amazing and supportive man, whom I adore, but also to have the support of my beautiful family and great friends.
