Hello,
Well, I was born in 1960 within the lights of Las vegas into a family of performers. After two years, shipped off to New Hampshire and at the age of 17 I moved to the Big Apple!
I have been living for 33 years in New York City and have worn many masks during my journey within this amazing city. Also, for my first 4 years in NYC traveled back and forth while attending Penn. State as a theater major, graduating in 1982. During the 80's and early 90's I worked in sales, training dogs, as a model, a professional actor appearing in theater, commercials and principal roles on 2 soap operas, however, never landing a contract role. That's LIfe!, as I said many masks!
My life as a performer took a back seat as life steered me into a new direction. I focused my energies on the restuarant/ bar business, eventually owning a Bar until I met my wife, a brilliant lawyer, who inspired me to sell the Bar. A marriage has the ability to make changes in a mans life(LOL). Since that time, almost 9 years ago, I have worked in Real Estate and began driving a cab,(hence, the name The Hack Poet), when as we all know the markets fell apart. Like they say, necessity is the mother of invention and as a New York cab driver the poetry/prose was born inside of me. Believe this, 12 hours of driving a cab could inspire one to do many things, my observations and interactions with so many varied people were invaluable. When your sitting in the front seat of a cab, your given a new pair of eyes to see humanity as it passes you by.
I had no choice but to begin to put my thoughts and observations into a creative form. I must say quite a surprise to me being I always hated writing, but that being said, I truly enjoy this new form of creative expression. To be honest, I was always afraid of writing.
My Poetry/Prose runs the gambit one might say, every topic from politics, spiritual, family, love, war, goverment, my life experiances, and recovery. Some with a touch of humor, some without, if I missed one please forgive me. The style in which I write varies from formed and versed rhymed pieces, to more of a free form style. It is a lot of fun to let a poem take on it's own life. What is most important to me, as an artist and as a writer, that my work is imagery rich and emotionally honest! I hope when the curtian rises opening night, you"ll be entertained by my one act poetry play.
At the age of 51 a new journey has begun, a new an exciting chapter in my life. The cab is gone, the spirit remains! As well as my Real Estate career, for one must pay the bills.
