She studied English and Creative Writing at Southern Oregon University, has a degree in Environmental Studies from Simpson College and an ADN in Nursing as well. She graduated with an MFA in Creative Writing from Pacific University in June of 2010. Her father was director of a zoo in Iowa when she was growing up, allowing her to live with wolves and other animals. She is working on a novel about this life, melding fact and fiction to portray the intricate relationships between people and animals, as well as between people and people.
