With over 30 years’ experience as a nurse and over 20 years experience in healthcare emergency preparedness, Julie Bulson, DNP, MPA, RN, NE-BC currently serves as Spectrum Health’s Director, Emergency Preparedness. Ms. Bulson has oversight and responsibility of all emergency preparedness for Spectrum Health (10 acute care hospitals, a children’s hospital, medical group spaces including several urgent care centers). She is responsible for all emergency management program development and implementation. She has been instrumental in the development of the first hospital based decontamination response team in the region. She has been the hospital’s representative on many community emergency preparedness planning committees. Ms. Bulson has also been a guest lecturer for emergency preparedness at multiple local nursing programs as well as several emergency preparedness conferences and has co-authored several articles related to healthcare emergency preparedness. Her current research includes workplace violence barriers to reporting and nursing perceived knowledge of emergency preparedness and response.
