I'm a longtime Decatur resident, retired first-grade teacher, and part-time Suzuki flute instructor. I retired early to try my hand at writing fiction for young readers. Now I know why Isabel Allende said, "Wanting to write a book in retirement is like saying, 'I think I'll be a dentist when I retire.'" I enjoy gardening, birding, walking for exercise, not cooking, reading, writing, yoga, and longsitting outside for an hour a day paying attention to the natural world. It's a lucky way to live.
