Justice has been the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI of more than $55 million in federal research grants during the last decade. Her research is now supported by the Spencer Foundation, the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Institutes of Health, the United States Department of Education, and others.

Justice's large-scale studies include: examining the developmental trajectory of children from the age of four to middle school to identify the dimensions of classroom experiences that influence cognitive and social development; testing the effects of specific transition practices on children's kindergarten adjustment and early school achievement; and investigating the effects of 'toxic stress' and parent-child interactions on the developmental trajectories of children.
