Owiwi

Ridwan is the name. Adedeji is the patriarchy. Owiwi is who I am – a night owl. I come from an ancestry of elders with bulging eyes, much like those of Benin terra-cota figures and figurines. I come from an ancestry of elders with protruding stomachs, like the big round calabashes used by my shrieking mothers. I am Òwìwí. I come from an ancestry of elders with palms as rough as laterite latticed roads. I am the night bird.
