I am diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome, or high-functioning autism. My path to discovery of my diagnosis began as a substitute teaching assistant in 2014. The assignments often put me in special ed classes where the demand was the greatest. It was seeing so much of "me" in autistic children that prompted my research, on-line testing, and consulting with my doctor. My reaction has been on of relief and desire to share my story with others as well as continuing with my job of helping children who struggle with what I did and still do.
