James R. Sanders is inspired by the overcomer, having been one even before he knew what the word meant. He styles and writes from a soultry space where joy and pain collide to create definitive art that moves the masses. As a fashion editor, he is one of those rare entities in fashion that writes AND styles – both of which he does from an honest perspective digging deeper for the story he tells with words and couture.
One of James’ favorite things to do when he was a child was sitting with his grandmother and reading her vintage copies of Vogue Magazine. He took notice of how trends changed but style remained the same. It was that early pedigree that gave him his start. Fashion magazines excited him and taught him that anything was possible. He took that excitement and turned it into a career that has included: contributing to Vogue, Glamour, L’Officiel, The Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, Fox, HBO, and Freeform among others. And because He was just as obsessed with red carpet fashion, he eventually began working with celebrities including: the cast of “Scandal,” “True Blood,” and “Pretty Little Liars.” He’s done the Emmys, NAACP Image Awards, Golden Globes, Oscars, and the Grammys.
Through empowerment, James believes that style is a way of life that has more to do with feelings and movement. If you love what you’re wearing, you’re happier. Fashion can change lives and James prides himself on being able to do the same which is why one of his favorite jobs is that of an adjunct professor of fashion styling for INIFD | London School of Trends.
James holds a BA in Journalism from Rowan University and an MA in English from Saint Joseph’s University.
