Born and raised in Indiana, Wayne now resides in Tiffin, Ohio with his wife and son. He ran the Berlin Marathon in 1998 while stationed in Germany, with the US Army. He competed in his first triathlon the following year and then due to unforeseen circumstances took a 10 year break from racing and training. In 2008 he bought a bike and in 2009 and 2010 did a total of four duathlons and two full marathons. He enjoyed the duathlons but wanted something more, but knew that would mean there was some serious work to do on the swim. In 2011, after many hours in the pool, he did his first Olympic distance triathlon and his first half distance triathlon. Since then he’s completed 11 more half distance triathlons and two full distance triathlons, in addition to a number of full and half marathons.

Wayne retired from active duty in 2012 and is currently a full time student. When he’s not training or doing homework, he’s spending time with his family and two dogs. His son is active in triathlon as well, so they enjoy quality time training together.
